Hi i m engineering graduate from Devi Ahilya University, indore. I have given and clear the written test of GAIL & RCFL PSU exams.
The pattern is as follows...
GAIL: 3rd sept. 2006.
Total no. of questions = 150.
Time = 2 and half hrs.
Technical Q=100 and non technical Q= 50.
The paper is moderate. Technical portion consists of all basic subjects of E & I engg i.e. Analog, Control, Process Control, Digital, microprocessor, digital, instrumentation & measurement. Normally they ask 6-7 questions of each subject. Covers almost all important topics i.e. ADC, Transducers, Basics of Analytical instrument, DVM, CRO, Meters, Control basics etc. I think that cutoff is more than 80%. So be accurate while doing paper. Non technical portion includes 20 Q of GK and rest analytical and reasoning. This time, English is not asked in non technical portion. GK questions are basically asked from Chronicle, Pearson (GK MANUAL BOOK). Analytical and reasoning questions are quite easy and RS agarwal is sufficient for that.
I think 70 % is minimum cutoff for non technical portion. I clear this exam and now waits for the result of interview.
RCFL: 9 Oct. 2006
Total no of Q= 100 ( technical = 50 and non technical =50)
Time = 1 hrs. ( 30 minutes for technical and 30 minutes for non technical).
Paper is easy. Technical questions are from core instrumentation side. Process control and Control theory is very important in this exam. 2-3 questions from networks also asked. Non technical portion is very easy. It includes basically puzzles, blood relationship, coding decoding, bar graphs and pie charts based questions. I think that minimum 80 %. cutoff for both technical and non technical portion. I clear this exam but failed in interview bcoz only 2 seats are for insturmentation ppl (general).
So prepare well for written test.
